Win More Starts. Stop Guessing.
All racing sailors know how important a good start is to success on the race course. But starting consistently is hard. In this post, we’ll show how you can get better starts using the Start screen in the Pathfinder Sailing app, which works on both the iPhone and the Apple Watch.
This video shows the Plus plan, which connects to your boat’s instruments to get the most accurate information possible.

What is Speed-to-Start?
Speed to Start is the speed your boat needs to go to hit the starting line on time and at speed. When starting, if you are early to the starting line, you will have a low speed-to-start. If you are late, your speed-to-start will be high.
The goal is to cross the starting line at or near your target boat speed. That’s where the Burnometer, or speed-to-start graphic, comes in. The black dot on the circle graph shows your target upwind boat speed for the wind strength derived from your polar.
Companion Apple Watch App
The Apple Watch companion app to the iPhone app includes a Start screen and provides a real-time stream of information about the boat’s performance, wind shifts, and tidal currents when connected to your instruments via wifi. The Basic plan, which uses your iPhone GPS, also provides a great Start screen.
