The Pathfinder Sailing™ App on iPhone provides sailors with the information they need to consistently get better starts and sail faster. The app connects to a boat’s existing B&G Instruments and provides performance information in context during different parts of the race.

Currently supported instruments are B&G:

with more instruments supported soon.

Two subscription plans are offered: the Plus Plan with B&G instrument connectivity and a Basic Plan with more limited iPhone GPS connectivity.

Get Better Starts

The mobile app includes several screens designed to help you get better starts:

  • The Start screen provides you with time to start, line bias, distance to the line, and the ‘Speed to Start’ Burnometer™ graphic to time your start precisely
  • A Start Analysis screen reports your distance to the line and speed at the start of the race. The screen appears immediately after the timer reaches ‘0’ so you can learn how well you are starting and whether you were over the starting line early.
  • The Timer screen makes it easy to stay on top of your starting time and turn on the audible countdown timer so you can keep your eyes out of the boat
  • Set Starting Line screens allow you to ping the precise locations of the port and starboard ends of the line directly from your iPhone

Get Up to Speed Faster

After starting, the Speed screen provides you with information about how the boat is performing against your polar. Pathfinder provides a library of standard polars you can choose from, or you can use your custom polars. This ensures the boat is sailing at optimum speed, point, and heel angle for the conditions.

Sail the Course More Quickly

Sail the course faster by clearly understanding wind trends and staying in phase with wind shifts. Visualize tidal current direction and strength. See trends over the past 10, 30, or 60 minutes to understand their patterns better.

  • Wind screen trend enables you to visualize and predict wind shifts more accurately.
  • Tidal Current trend makes it easy to see if you are sailing into more current or less.
  • Course screen with COG trend shows your course trend and if it is changing due to a wind shift or current change.

Pathfinder Sailing on Apple Watch

With the Pathfinder Sailing Apple Watch App, you can access the same real-time Speed, Course, Wind, and Tidal Current information – right on your wrist. The watch app connects directly to the iPhone mobile app via wifi and Bluetooth so you can leave your phone below decks if you prefer.

    uses iPhone GPS for starting line information and provides speed and course over ground information at race time
  • Plus Plan
    integrates with your B&G H5000, Hercules, and Triton instruments for the most precise starting line management, wind and current trends, and a starting analysis

 

Race Logging & Race Replay

You can automatically log your races, saving your performance data to your iPhone. After racing, use the ‘Upload Data to Server’ button to sync your performance metrics to the My Pathfinder web app. You can then view a virtual race replay and the other boats in your fleet that are using the Pathfinder Sailing app. Click here to learn more about the My Pathfinder web app.
